Day 1-2: Arrive in San José
Spend your first couple of days in the capital city of San José. Visit top attractions like the Gold Museum, Jade Museum, and National Theater. Go on a walking tour of Barrio Amón to see the historic architecture. Enjoy the lively restaurants and nightlife in the city.
Day 3: Poás Volcano
Take a day trip to Poás Volcano near Alajuela. This active volcano has a stunning crater lake. Hike the trails through the cloud forest and learn about the unique ecosystem. See wildlife like toucans and hummingbirds.
Day 4: La Fortuna
Travel by bus or rental car to La Fortuna, the base for exploring Arenal Volcano. Hike the Arenal 1968 Trail for views of the volcano. Relax in therapeutic hot springs heated by the volcano’s geothermal activity.
Day 5: Wildlife and Rafting
Join a safari float trip down Peñas Blancas River to see monkeys, sloths, caimans, and other rainforest creatures. Go whitewater rafting on the Balsa River rapids for an adrenaline rush.
Day 6: Monteverde Cloud Forest
