Rise of Buddhism

This was when Confucius was preaching his ideas in China. Socrates was preaching his philosophical principles in Greece. In India, if we talk, we saw a change in the people’s religious attitude, meaning people like that—engaged in the search for a simple and high level.

Simultaneously in India, the influence of two great personalities, Mahatma Buddha and Mahavira Swami, was seen. These two opposed the ancient religious traditions and superstitions in India, and the idea of Buddhism and Jainism began to spread among the people.
Bodhisattva

It is a Sanskrit word used for a person who was destined to become a Buddha later. According to the Jatakas (Buddhist texts narrating the stories of the Bosadhasatvas), many births of pre-Buddha were born after attaining knowledge. All these pre-births of Buddha are known as Bosadhasatva.

The notion of Bosadhasatva is also found in early Buddhism (Theravada / Sthaktavarvada-traditionalist sect of Buddhism). But its greater importance was found in the Mahayana cult during the first centuries of Christ. It was supposed to be Buddhists who were very kind, Who had earned virtue by his efforts, but he did it not to achieve nirvan but to help others.
The sixth century AD is known as the Religious Revolution in Indian history.

Introduction to Buddha

The founder of Buddhism was Gautama Buddha.
These are called the Light of Asia.

Gautama Buddha was born at a place called Lumbini in Kapilavastu before 563 AD. In the third century BC, Ashoka built a pillar in memory of Mercury at this place.

✍ The Buddha belonged to the Shakya dynasty. His father’s name was Suddhodhana, who was the head of a small republic of Kapilavastu.

✍ Gautam Buddha’s childhood name was Siddhartha; his mother died soon after birth, so he was brought up by his aunt “Prajapati Gautami” for this reason, he was called Gautam.

☛ Note: – Keep in mind that the first woman who embraced Buddhism was “Prajapati Gautami.”

From the beginning, Gautam Buddha had a mind for spirituality, but his father was worried about it, so when Gautam was 16 years old, he was married to Yashodhara. At the age of 28, he had a son named Rahul.
✍ Rahul means: – Another bond.
Even though all this happened, Buddha’s mind did not feel in married life, and at the age of 29, he left home.

✍ For seven years, he kept wandering here in search of knowledge. During this time, he met Bimbasar, Udayan, and Alar Kalam.
Alar Kalam was Siddhartha’s first guru.
✍ After that, at the age of 35, Gautam reached a place called Urubela in Bihar. Later it became known as Urubella Buddhist Gaya.

✍ It was here that Gautama Buddha placed Samadhi under the Peepal tree to attain enlightenment, and on the 49th day, enlightenment was attained.
Since then, this peepal tree has been known as the Bodhi tree, and after attaining enlightenment, it is called Siddhartha Buddha because Buddha means “attainment of knowledge.”
✍ Mahatma Buddha preached for the first time to his five Brahmin disciples at Sarnath near Varanasi, and this is what is called Dharmachakra-pravartan in Buddhist texts.

✍Buddha visited many states and preached. Magadha was the center of powerful preaching, so Magadha rulers like Bimbasara, Udayan, became followers of Buddha.

☛ Note: – Buddha gave the most sermons in Sravasti. The Buddha has asked us to adopt the Astanga path.

For the propagation of Buddhism, Mahatma Buddha established the Buddhist Sangh, where monks used to leave their homes and live and preach Buddhism throughout their lives.

The followers of Buddha were divided into two parts.
Monks: – For the propagation of Buddhism, who took sannyasa.
Worshipers: – Those who adopt Buddhism while living a domestic life were called worshipers.

From time to time, Buddhist meetings were organized to explain Buddhism, which is known as Buddhist music.
✍ Before 483 AD, when Buddha was 80 years old, he died (Mahaparinirvana) in Kushinagar.

✍ After his death, the bone remains of Buddha were divided and installed in 8 parts of India. The largest of these stupas are located in Sanchi.

Principles of Buddhism

The Buddha told his followers to avoid the two extremes of indulgence in worldly pleasures and practice strict restraint and penance. He found the ‘middle way’ or middle way, which was to be followed. According to him, everyone was responsible for their happiness in life, emphasizing the individualistic component of Buddhism Baudh Dharm.

There are three gems of Buddhism

  • Buddha
  • Dhamma
  • Union

The most sacred festival of Buddhism is Vaishakhi Purnima, which is known as Buddha Purnima. Because on the same day, Buddha was born and attained enlightenment.

The significant scripture of the Buddha is “Tripitaka.”

The language of early Buddhist texts was Pali, and later books were written in the Sanskrit language.

Dharmapala established the famous “Vikramshila” University of Buddhism.

The last Buddhist scripture to originate in India is Paksini with Vam.

✍ Metal coins first appeared in the Buddhist period.

First Council

It came under King Ajatashatru about 483 BC, shortly after the great prinirvana of the Buddha.
